Facial Vein Treatment
Facial vein treatment is available for patients with a variety of facial veins including blue veins at the temples, spider veins on the cheeks, and bulging veins in the forehead. Dr. Malvehy, a top rated vein doctor located in the East Bay, offers customized facial vein treatment in the office, depending on what the most effective technique will be for your specific problem.
Facial vein treatments include liquid or foam sclerotherapy or thermocoagulation. Sclerotherapy is used for larger or bulging veins and involves an injection of a small amount of medication into the veins to cause them to collapse. Veins generally disappear in 4-6 weeks. Thermocoagulation is a process where a small burst of electricity – think electrolysis – is delivered using a bristle tip in order to cauterize small vessels. Veins typically disappear instantly. Both treatments may have 1-2 hours of redness or swelling in treated areas. 1-2 treatments are usually adequate for most people.
Treatment usually takes 10-15 minutes and can be performed the same day as the initial consultation. Patients should avoid face lotion and bring a floppy hat to avoid sun exposure on the way home. It is recommended to avoid sun exposure during the first week or so after treatment.
